POLICE were called after an 11-year-old girl "kicked off" when she was barred from watching Love Island.

Cops rushed to a house in Coalville, Leics on Tuesday fearing domestic violence after receiving a frantic 999 call.

Dispatchers listed the emergency as "grade one" — meaning officers sped to the scene with blue lights and sirens.

But they arrived to find a family spat over hit ITV show Love Island.

Local police in nearby Market Bosworth said the girl threw a tantrum when her parents told her she couldn't watch it.

They wrote on Facebook: "Colleagues from ‘PRT’ (Patrol and Resolution Team) have just popped in to the office after dealing with an ‘incident’ in Barlestone where an 11 year old girl ‘kicked off’ because she wasn’t allowed to watch #loveisland.

"Due to the information passed by the caller, this was risk assessed and graded as a ‘grade one’ - which means they attended as an emergency on blues and twos."

Slamming the false emergency, Hanna Williams wrote: "Hope all involved got a good talking to for wasting time - as well as even contemplating watching Love Island."

And Lisa Ellis added: "Wow, think some parenting classes might be needed.

"Oh and a bill for wasting police time. Should get the girl to do some voluntary work on a weekend to make up for it."

It is not clear if the caller was a member of the girl's family or a neighbour.

But police said they authorised the top-level response when the caller made "mentions of violence" and hung up suddenly.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said: "An emergency call was received just after 9.10pm on Wednesday, reporting a public disorder incident at an address in Coalville.

"Due to concerns raised in the emergency call, including mentions of violence and the caller hanging up, a grade one response was authorised.

"Officers attended the incident and inquiries were carried out.
